As I was driving to work this morning, gazing at the beauty of the darkened clouds, and amazing lightning streaking the sky every few minutes, a song came on that I really liked. It's called "Today is the Day" by Lincoln Brewster. Its lyrics talked about leaving fears behind and reaching for God, for TODAY is the day HE has made. It really struck a spot in my heart. I thought about how I was driving into bad weather, and how I was relying on my car to get me safely to my destination in good timing. I started to think that as the person in the song was reaching toward God, through Jesus, I was reaching toward work, through my car. It made me think of how a car is a great analogy with Jesus. Think about it. We rely and trust in our vehicles so much nowadays, to get us somewhere on time, to help us so we don't have to walk from place to place, to take our burden from us. In the same way, Jesus is who we should rely on, to get us to the MAIN PLACE in HIS timing, to take OUR burden, when He didn't even have to! Yet, we can mistreat our cars, not filling up the gas, changing the oil, and the car simply decides to stop working for us for a little while. Why do we trust in something as complicated as engines and tune-ups and just LEARNING how to operate the machine, and yet so many of us can't trust Someone by simply saying, 'Come into my heart, Jesus!'? Jesus doesn't fail. NEVER will He leave you! When you forget to fill up your car with gasoline, it fails to run. When you forget to fill your mind with the Word, Jesus is there, telling you "Come on, I'm waiting for you." When the blood of your car, the oil, needs to be changed, it can cost $30.00-$50.00. Yet, the Price of your soul has beenbought with the Blood of our amazing Savior! When our car messes up, we fix it, and drive like nothing happened. When we forsake God, we are scared to come back to Him. Why run to our vehicles before our God?
Sorry for rambling, but my point, trust our Lord and Savior, as much as you trust a simple, man-made machine. :)
Today is the Day by Lincoln Brewster
I'm casting my cares aside
I'm leaving my past behind
I'm setting my heart and mind on You, Jesus
I'm reaching my hand to Yours
Believing there's so much more
Knowing that all You have in store for me is good, it's good
Today is the day You have made
I will rejoice and be glad in it
Today is the day You have made
I will rejoice and be glad in it
And I won't worry about tomorrow
I'm trusting in what You say
Today is the day
Today is the day
I'm putting my fears aside
I'm leaving my doubts behind
I'm giving my hopes and dreams to You, Jesus
I'm reaching my hands to Yours
Believing there's so much more
Knowing that all You have in store for me is good, it's good
I will stand upon Your truth
(I will stand upon Your truth)
And all my days I'll live for You
(And all my days I'll live for You)
